Thanks for the heads up Rima.

YouTube podcaster Traci (Brush Junkie) has just posted documents about long-standing cloud-seeding in the area and plans to create a 'SMART' city ... and Dane Wigington is making a strong case that this is not an 'all natural' disaster.

And readers, please be careful about donating any money to faux ’grassroots’ disaster-relief organizations, for example, ones containing the name ‘Strong’, such as ‘Lahaina Strong’.

Cheers from Japan

I agree that this is not a natural disaster but one made man, just like Covid. Our skies were filled with chem trails and I am convinced it caused the 2 back to back hurricanes (within 2 weeks of one another) last year in Florida. DeSantis just made it illegal in Florida and skies for the past month have been crystal clear. Stay safe and healthy in Japan Steve.

Much thanks Lori.

Though money-bearing tourists are generally safe, 'safe and healthy' is becoming increasingly difficult for non-Japanese residents.

Even though I have lived here and paid taxes for 43 years, the Sanseito Political party is making an argument for excluding the likes of me from the pension and health care system. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nxst2RilTLI.

Although non-Japanese are the easiest first-line scapegoats to balance the budget, next up are the retirees. Japan's version of Canada's MAID (medical assistance in dying). A bit of predictive programming based on the old tale (and movies) 'The Ballad of Narayama' ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-at2w5ORFfE

Terminally single, retired, and foreign ... I have three laser-sights on me.

When I go down, it hope it will be with a 'cheers'.

Thank you for the kind offer Lori.

(By the way, 'Lori' was my mom's name ... short for 'Hannelore'. She passed away in Tucson last year, from neurological complications that were probably accelerated by the clot shots. Her 2nd husband, my step dad, had retired from nearby Fort Huachuca where Rima's husband had worked.)

A couple of hours ago, I received a reply from Josh at GiveSendGo, and the link he directed me to indicates residents in Japan are indeed not eligible to donate.

Thank you for the offer to act as a go-between, but the logistics of money exchange sounds like 'somebody up there' is telling me I need to pick another battle this time. Just remembering me when you make a donation would be an honor.

Cheers Lori.

And thanks again.

Why can't you move Steve? I am assuming you are American. Come back home.

Hi Lori.

I am American, but can't even afford to move to a cheaper apartment in Japan, much less pack up and move to America.

The Japanese working class is experiencing an economic meltdown, and as a retiree, I will also suffer for it. But Japan is still home. My only personal friends and source of support are all Japanese.

Besides, I don't qualify for either American retirement or health care, and I have no family or network of personal friends in the U.S. In a worst case scenario, if I am fated to spend the rest of my life on the streets, I'd rather be a foreigner in Japan than anonymous in the U.S.

But thanks for the suggestion.

Understood. You have been there a long time and made the investment of immersing your whole self and life there. You must love Japan very much. I know the feeling when you are "called" elsewhere to live. I moved to Greece and stayed some years but did return to the US. Greece is truly my first home in my heart and Soul. I hope things turn around for Japan so you do not have to worry. All the best Steve! Nice meeting you:}

Just heading to bed, Lori.

Greece! Whoa! Arguably the birthplace of the modern West. I remember reading Alfred North Whitehead once saying all of modern philosophy could be boiled down to a footnote to Plato ... and thinking to myself, that might have been only a slight exaggeration. Even now, I am a big fan of Yanis Varoufakis, and try to catch him on YouTube when I can.

I guess I was 'called' to come to Japan in my youth, but may have overstayed due to rigor mortis. But I must confess that I am not particularly a Japanophile. I prefer jazz to J-pop and beer to sake, and don't spend much time with Japan-centric posts.

There is much about the history and traditional craftsmanship I like, and I do appreciate the relative orderliness here. And the food!

But I am not a fan of nation-states in general for two reasons.

One is caste. Much of the culture is a mythic narrative created by the ruling class to control the population. 'Invented Traditions of Modern Japan', by Stephen Vlastos, is a good introduction to the Japanese version of the Japanese version of the same kind of propaganda that feeds 'the American Dream' / Horatio Alger / rags-to-riches / prosperity theology. That is why the U.S. Embassy here in Japan is more of a special service offered for elite, corporate ex-pats rather than working class Americans. Isabel Wilkerson wrote a pretty good book about the largely hidden conversation of 'caste' in America. And most Japanese are aware that old money and family connections make up a ruling class here as the Lords and Barons of England.

But another reason is better expressed by the social psychology of Cluster B personality traits. Lord Acton famously said 'Power corrupts; absolute power corrupts absolutely.' But Frank Herbert, author of 'Dune', put another interesting spin on that by observing that the people who are attracted to concentrations of power tend to be corruptible.

Looking at Japanese schools, businesses, and the government from the inside, (and a couple of American colleges), I can't help but see less a correlation between a person's position of authority and merit, and a greater correlation to Cluster B personality traits ... the pathological narcissists, Machiavellian opportunists, and medically defined psychopaths among us. Research seems to indicate a minimum of 1% of any general population will have sociopathic levels of this type of temperament, and 15% or higher in political-corporate settings.

But when I think about it, some similar correlation may be found in the fine arts and performing arts, or competitive sports. Maybe just about every hierarchical domain? There is so much to think about here, and the Ponerology Substack by Harrison Koehli is one source of my information. The downshot is that while I have a very small community of Japanese friends, I do not trust the government or its institutions as much as my friends.

But more than understanding the psychology of the 'winners' of the secular world, maybe I am just trying to console myself as a loser ... because I was not personally ambitious (or talented) enough to become corrupt. 😂

Cheers Lori!

And nice meeting you too!

Just watched Plan 75 link you sent and now have tears in my eyes. There is an older population because from what I understand, they eat right exercise and maintain a healthy weight. Seniors are precious and we should honor them every day they are with us no matter from what country. I thought Japan revered their elders? Have things changed? Will watch other link soon.

Expand full comment
Steve Martin's avatar

Hi again Lori.

As I sip my coffee, I feel like I should warn you, this will not be a very pleasant topic.

Sadly, the 'reverence for the elderly' is mostly a manufactured myth. The elderly, particularly the retired boomer generation with more money than the exploited youth and working class, are also seen as more of just another resource to be ruthlessly exploited until their final days. And like many European countries and America, moves are underway to raise the retirement age to between 67 and 70. Earlier this year, up to 2 million French workers per day were involved in violent protests against Macron's government raising the retirement age.

The Japanese government takes a more stealthy approach. It reduces the amount of pension paid to recipients, reduces cost-of-living increases designed to keep up with inflation, and once taxes are raised beyond the breaking point of working class Japanese ... refuses to reduce taxes — and instead plans to return part of those consumer taxes in the form of a one-time-only 'hand-out' of roughly $135.00 per person.

The cost of living for working class Japanese is so high, that the daily evening news devotes at least 5 minutes to the price and availability of the most basic food item ... rice. Even before the plandemic, the government admitted that 1/6 of Japanese school children were below the poverty level, with public school lunches the main source of nourishment for those children.

There is a problem particular to Japan in that families are fragmented by more demanding working conditions — frequent moves, work-related traditions of separating men from their families (tanshin funin — job transfer away from family), younger workers leaving the family to live in company dormitories, and a 'tradition' of keeping older and more experienced workers — but dropping their salaries to 50% at age 60. Of course, the same conditions do not apply to upper management.

A predictable result is an increasingly fascist government ... not the pejorative sense of 'fascist' ... just the fact that 'Public Private Partnerships' is just a euphemism for the merging of the government with large corporations. And like all concentrations of secular power, the purpose of power is total authority over individuals, families, and communities.

Here is a long, but fairly accurate video about how the toxic work culture is destroying Japan ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2HhSCiMUpQ8

As shown above, a couple of results of promoting business at the cost of family and moral autonomy include:

1 — the rapidly falling demographics, and

2 — isolation of the elderly.

Many of the youth are exploited so much by the system, they have lost interest or capacity to marry and raise their own families — hence a reluctant dependence on foreigners for tourist dollars and to work the lower-paying or dangerous jobs that Japanese do not want to work ... the same as the U.S. These are called k.k.k. jobs 'kitenai (dirty), kiken (dangerous), and kitsui (hard).

(short) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cIOPUFH0ZZg

The Tokyo Government is claiming to try and address the declining birth rate among working class Japanese, by making a 'dating app' ... but actually only using the problem as an excuse to for yet another exploitable business opportunity or a chance to grab more personal data for other purposes.

(short) https://www.youtube.com/shorts/AxI9Qnpmd5M

You are correct in that the elderly tend to be more long-lived and slimmer than American counterparts, but as you implied, that is less because of the public health care system and more because of the diet and lots of walking.

What is a bit different from the U.S., the land and house prices are still low enough for many of the elderly to be still living alone, and many of them dying alone, their bodies not discovered until weeks or months after death because of their isolation from families or the system. There is even a booming business in locating and cleaning up houses in which an elderly person has died alone (孤独死 / kodokushi — 'lonely death').

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xAdugD09vps.

The Australian journalist's unanalyzed assumption (at about 5:00) is infuriating. 'There is increasing pressure on the government to do more for vulnerable people in life and in death.' — sounds good on the surface. But it is the corporate nation-state that is producing conditions that destroyed the extended family unit and local communities to begin with.

My guess is that the typical Japanese bureaucratic response is to use this as an excuse to raise taxes on the working class, and use only part of those funds to form a committee of wealthy politicians to come up with solutions.

One ranking shows the relative salaries of Japanese politicians as the 2nd most wealthy political class in the world. Data from Chat GPT 4.0 ...

————

The approximate ratio of lawmakers’ pay to average national wages for Japan and several other countries—based on recent data:

America Average — Law Maker/Politician Pay is roughly 3.4 times the average American's salary.

Japan — Average Law Maker/Politician Pay is roughly 10 times the average American's salary ... 2nd highest in the world.

Brazil — World's highest, Average Law Maker/Politician Pay is roughly 18 times the average American's salary.

————

Long passed my years of being able to get married and start a family, I spend more time thinking of death, and now need to spend more time preparing. In my case, such a 'lonely death' at home would be preferable to being in expensive terminal care in a hospital, surrounded by people who see me as part of their business.

Whew. Not a bright topic to finish my first cup of coffee. But a good motivation to do a bit of house cleaning.

Cheers from Japan, Lori.

ps. A podcast by a YouTuber I follow, Survival Lily from Austria, just gave an update about Europe's move to a centrally controlled digital currency ... just like the Japanese government is pushing us.

Our Governor here in TN, Bill Lee signed a bill into law a year ago July 1st and four months later I'm driving down the hwy and they were out spraying! I took pics as recently as this past April in my driveway and I I happen to look up on that sunny day and they were out spraying! I took pics of it. I live by two airports, a local municipal airport and Ft. Campbell, KY. Talks of trying to fine them but you can't find out who they are. 🤬🤬🤬

That's the frustration that we don't know who these entities are and that is why they feel free to break the law and spray all of us. You would think you could back trace to the airports and coordinate take offs with time of spraying. I am sure it can be done but most likely too labor intensive.
